Ainu Museum Fair in Hiroshima & Hidezo Yamada Exhibition in Abashiri

More events for the weekend – a special opportunity to experience Ainu culture in Hiroshima and insight into Ainu place names through the eyes of researcher Hidezo Yamada with exhibits and events at the Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples.


The Ainu Museum Fair in Hiroshima

Part 1 – 13:30-13:50
Mukkur Workshop
(All participants will receive a mukkur (mouth harp))

Part 2 – 14:00-15:30
“Welcome to the World of the Ainu”
Speaker: Tomoe Nakano (Ainu Museum Curator)


Performance: Ainu prayer, song, dance
Capacity: 700 people
Kamuynomi (prayer to the spirits), iohayocis (impromptu song), iyomante rimse (bear-sending dance), mukkur (mouth harp), saroruncikap rimse (crane dance), etc.
